Also, I will be offering this television a rating on a scale of one to ten at the end of each section. Hence, to be able to make an informed purchase decision, I urge you to read this review article to the end.
My Initial Thoughts
As most of us know, Samsung is one of the major players in the television market. The brand’s introduction of QLED televisions in 2017 improved its status and made it more popular in the television market. This is because QLED televisions are known to deliver outstanding performance and are major rivals of LG’s OLED TVs. Hence, in 2020, in order to expand its collection of QLED televisions, Samsung released the Q70T. The Samsung Q70T, like every other QLED TV in the market, offers impressive picture quality and performance for mixed usage. However, QLED televisions are often pricey and this Samsung television isn’t an exception. Specifically, when I wrote this review article in April 2022, the Samsung Q70T had a starting price tag of $1,197.99. With such a heavy price tag, does this Samsung television have enough features to compete with other QLED TVs in the market? Kindly read the remaining sections of the review to find an answer to that question.
Samsung Q70T Design, Dimension, and Weight Review
In terms of design, the Samsung Q70T comes with an exquisite and modern design. To give more details, the display of the television is surrounded by ultra-slim bezels that measure just 0.35-inch. Moreover, these bezels are built with plastic material and feature a glossy-black finish. Besides, the bottom bezel features a “SAMSUNG” inscription at the center for brand recognition. That said, the Samsung Q70T comes with a pair of thin V-shaped legs. Just like the bezels, these legs are entirely made out of plastic and have a glossy-black finish. Impressively, despite their plastic build, the legs are very sturdy and help the Samsung Q70T to stand firmly with minimal wobble. However, because these legs are set to the edges, you will need a fairly large table to place the TV on. Nevertheless, with the help of the 200 x 200 VESA mount holes on the television’s back panel, you can simply wall-mount the Samsung Q70T. Moreover, due to the extreme slimness of the back panel, this television shouldn’t bulge out when wall-mounted. Besides, this back panel is made of plastic and features a matte-black finish with a horizontal dotted pattern that makes it look really appealing. Also, there are grooves and lines at the bottom part of the back panel that serves as a cable management system. When it comes to dimension and weight, the Samsung Q70T measures 1450.3 x 58.4 x 828 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 22316.7 g. Comparatively, this television is slimmer and lighter than the TCL 65Q825. Specifically, the TCL 65Q825 weighs a massive 31706.1 g and measures 1445.2 x 78.7 x 835.7 mm (W x D x H). In conclusion, the Samsung Q70T features a modern and appealing design with a minimalist build. Also, this television comes with a cable management system and a pair of sturdy legs. Thus, I will offer the Samsung Q70T a rating of nine out of ten in this design review section.
Samsung Q70T Display Features and Picture Quality Review
To start with, the Samsung Q70T employs a 65-inch QLED display that offers a 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution. Briefly, QLED which is the short form for “quantum dot light-emitting diode” is a type of LED display. However, unlike the regular LED display, a QLED display features a quantum dot layer behind its panel. This layer allows it to render adequate brightness and excellent color accuracy. Hence, the Samsung Q70T’s QLED display with a little help from its 4K UHD resolution should be able to deliver sharp and realistic picture quality. Besides, as with most QLED displays out there, this television’s display offers a remarkable contrast ratio. To be more precise, the display comes with a contrast ratio of 7,144:1. In brief, the contrast ratio is the difference between the most luminous white and darkest blacks that a display can render. Furthermore, the contrast ratio is a major aspect that determines the black level of a display. Essentially, if the display has a high contrast ratio (3000:1 or higher), it will be able to render deep blacks. However, if the display offers a low contrast ratio (lower than 3000:1), it won’t be able to produce deep black – blacks on the display will look grayish. Well, as seen above, the contrast ratio of the Samsung Q70T’s display is way more than 3000:1. Thus, it should be able to render deep blacks. As a result, movies with numerous dark or shadowy scenes will be appealing to watch on the Samsung Q70T. Also, due to its display’s high contrast ratio, the television is suitable for dark room viewing. Sadly, probably due to the fact that it already has a high contrast ratio, the Samsung Q70T’s display doesn’t support local dimming. Briefly, the local dimming is a picture-enhancement technique that focuses on dimming the backlight zones behind an LED/LCD display. In doing so, boosting the contrast ratio and black level of the display. Therefore, with local dimming, blacks on the display will look darker than they would without local dimming. Unfortunately, as mentioned earlier, this television’s display doesn’t support local dimming. Although the display’s lack of local dimming isn’t a major issue, it would have been a great plus. Moving on, the Samsung Q70T’s QLED display offers a maximum brightness of 463 nits. Honestly, for a regular LED or LCD display, this maximum brightness is exceptional. However, for a QLED display, it is somewhat disappointing as there are numerous QLED televisions that offer far better maximum brightness. For example, the TCL 65Q825 offers a maximum brightness of 1379 nits. Nevertheless, the Samsung Q70T’s display’s maximum brightness of 463 nits is enough for you to enjoy using the TV in well-lit areas. However, its performance won’t be as good as televisions with higher maximum brightness. On a positive note, the Samsung Q70T’s display features a semi-gloss coating on its surface. This coating helps in reducing reflection and the density of screen glares on the display when you use the television in bright areas. Moving on, the Samsung Q70T supports Quantum HDR. In case you are wondering, Quantum HDR is an HDR effect specifically made for QLED displays. Furthermore, it improves the brightness and color accuracy of a QLED display while preserving picture details. Thus, when viewing HDR-compatible content on the Samsung Q70T, pictures should be so much brighter and more realistic. If you don’t know, HDR-supported content is usually found on streaming apps like Hulu and Netflix. In addition to its Quantum HDR, the Samsung Q70T comes with 4K Upscaling technology. This picture technology enhances the quality of standard HD content or a lower resolution content to near 4K quality. Basically, everything you will be watching on this television will either be in 4K quality or close to 4K quality. Regrettably, despite its impressive features, this television’s display has bad viewing angles. Therefore, when viewing the Samsung Q70T from the sides or off-center, colors will rapidly fade out and pictures will lose accuracy. For this reason, this Samsung television isn’t suitable for a large room setting. On the bright side of things, this television’s display offers a remarkable low input lag of 9.2 milliseconds. Due to this, the Samsung Q70T is ideal for gaming. In brief, input lag is the time it takes a display to register signal input from an external source. Furthermore, the lower the input lag of a display, the better the gaming experience. In addition to its impressively low input lag, the Samsung Q70T’s offers a fast response time of 15 milliseconds. Therefore, combined with its native refresh rate of 120 Hz, this Samsung television is good for watching fast-motion content like sports. In brief, response time is the time it takes for display pixels to change from one color to another. Whereas, refresh rate refers to the number of times per second a display is able to refresh a new image. For example, the Samsung Q70T’s display’s 120 Hz refresh rate means it can refresh new images 120 times per second. In summary, the Samsung Q70T offers a good display performance, featuring a remarkable contrast ratio and a low input lag. However, the television’s display has bad viewing angles and its maximum brightness is quite disappointing for a QLED display. Therefore, I will offer the Samsung Q70T a rating of eight out of ten in this display features review section.
Samsung Q70T Sound Features Review
For sound production, the Samsung Q70T offers two 20-watts speakers – that’s a total sound output of 40 watts. Hence, these speakers should be loud enough to fill a large room with sound. Besides, the speakers produce adequate sound quality and are capable of delivering clear and understandable dialogue. For clarity, dialogue is the conversation between multiple characters in a TV show or movie. Unfortunately, the Samsung Q70T lacks a built-in subwoofer. As a result, its speakers alone won’t be able to produce enough bass for enjoying the rumbling sound and vibrations in movies or songs. Thus, bass-heavy movies aren’t ideal to watch on this Samsung television. Nevertheless, to get an ideal bass production, you can purchase a soundbar alongside the television. Obviously, that comes at an additional cost. On a positive note, the Samsung Q70T offers an impressive distortion performance which was proven through its result on the THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) test. THD test is an audio frequency test that measures the total amount of distortion a sound device can produce. Furthermore, scores on this test are usually calculated in percentage. Hence, if a sound device scores 1% or less, that implies it produces a minimal amount of distortion. However, if the score is above 1%, that means the sound device can produce a significant amount of distortion. Thankfully, the Samsung Q70T delivered a score of 0.87% on the THD test. Thus, the speakers of the television will deliver minimal distortion even when the television is set to the max volume level. In case you are wondering, distortion in this context is the impairment of a sound device’s audio frequencies/signals. Thereby, resulting in the production of unwanted noises and disturbing sound quality. In addition to its impressive distortion performance, the Samsung Q70T supports Dolby Audio. Dolby Audio is a sound-enhancing technology that improves the sound quality and loudness of a sound system or speakers. As a result, the sound system or speakers will be able to deliver a detailed and cinematic sound quality. To round up this sound features review section, I will offer the Samsung Q70T a rating of eight out of ten.
Samsung Q70T Ports and Connectivity Features Review
Port-wise, the Samsung Q70T features a sufficient amount of ports. These ports are in a compartment on the left side of the television’s plastic back panel. Although the location of these ports seems safe, the only downside is accessing them. Specifically, whenever the television is mounted on the wall, users won’t be able to easily access the ports. Having established that, let us get to know the numerous kinds of ports that this television features. To begin with, the Samsung Q70T comes with four HDMI ports, one of which supports ARC (Audio Return Channel). Due to that particular ARC-supported HDMI port, you should be able to easily connect a soundbar to the television. That aside, this Samsung television also comes with two USB ports, digital optical audio out, an Ethernet port, and an RF port. Meanwhile, for wireless connectivity, the Samsung Q70T features Bluetooth 4.2 as well as an in-built 802.11 ac WIFI. That said, this television comes with a TM2050C remote. This remote is quite small and features plastic chassis with a glossy black finish. In terms of buttons, due to its small size, the remote offers a total number of 13 buttons including a round-shaped navigation button. Other buttons include a horizontal volume and channel rockers. Also, the TM2050C remote features dedicated buttons for quick access to Netflix, Prime Video, and Samsung TV Plus. For brand identification, you will find a “SAMSUNG” inscription sitting at the bottom part of this remote. All in all, I will offer the Samsung Q70T a rating of eight out of ten in this ports and connectivity review section.
Samsung Q70T Smart Features Review
Like most Samsung smart TVs, the Samsung Q70T makes use of the Tizen operating system. This OS features a smooth and user-friendly interface that responds to input very fast. For example, it takes only 2 seconds for YouTube to open when selected. However, the smooth nature of this operating system’s interface is sometimes affected by pesky ads. To be more specific, when navigating the interface, you might notice some advertisements occasionally. To make things worse, there is no means of disabling the ads. On the bright side, the Tizen OS offers lots of pre-installed applications and streaming services. These streaming services include Hulu, YouTube, Sling TV, Prime Video, Netflix, and so on. In fact, this operating system comes with a built-in apps store called the Samsung Store, where you can download more applications. Besides, you should be able to share/stream multimedia content from your smart devices to the Samsung Q70T. This is possible with the help of the TV’s mobile-to-TV mirroring feature. In conclusion, the Samsung Q70T comes with a smooth operating system that offers lots of pre-installed streaming services. However, the interface of the operating system contains pesky ads. Thus, I will offer the Samsung Q70T a rating of eight in this smart features review section.
My Final Thoughts
The Samsung Q70T is a smart television that offers an impressive 4K QLED display. This television’s display has a high contrast ratio, HDR compatibility, and a fast response time. Moreover, because the display features a low input lag, this Samsung television is suitable for gaming. Besides that, the television offers a good sound performance and a sufficient amount of ports. However, the TV comes with some major downsides which include bad viewing angles. Also, this television is somewhat expensive, costing $1,297.99 in April 2022. Nevertheless, the TV offers an overall performance that matches its heavy price tag. Hence, if you need a 65-inch QLED television with impressive picture quality, the Samsung Q70T is worth considering. Hope the information on this Samsung Q70T review was helpful.
